Dear St. Pius X families,
This is the time of year when planning and preparation for the 2025-2026 school year is in full swing. Admissions is buzzing with new applications and tours, our 8th graders are deciding on high school, and sadly, some of our Military families are receiving their orders which will take them away from our school community. Additionally, we continue to review our offerings to look for opportunities to grow.
With this in mind, we would like to announce some exciting news regarding academic support for students. In the 2025-2026 school year, we will have a full-time Resource Support teacher. This staff member will be responsible for providing remedial support for students who need extra assistance in language arts and math.
The addition of a Resource Support teacher is twofold. First, the Title 1 program, which offers reading support to students living in specific Norfolk zip codes, is changing across the state of Virginia. State funding and potential providers is uncertain as are the guidelines and restrictions across local cities. Second, we have recognized the need for and discussed offering additional academic support for students previously. We are in a position to do so beginning in the fall of 2025. The best case scenario is that Title 1 continues to be fully funded, and our school will be fortunate enough to have a Title 1 teacher and a Resource teacher.
We will cater our resource program to meet the individual needs of students based on assessment data and teacher feedback. Students who have shown concerning trends in accessing classroom instruction are invited to apply.
To receive Resource Support, parents of students selected to participate in the Resource program will incur a fee of $300 a month per student. This monthly fee will be added to the student’s tuition. The Resource teacher will provide instruction to strengthen skills based on assessment data, student work data, and teacher observations. Measurable goals will be created with students in the Resource program. Instruction may be one-to-one or in small groups, based on the student's needs. Frequency of pull-out services will vary, depending on the needs of students. A Personalized Education Plan (PEP) will be developed that will detail the services that will be provided to each student.
Placement in the resource program will be determined by the Resource teacher and Administration. Interested parents are invited to fill out an application for their child to be considered for the Resource program. Current St. Pius X families will have priority in the selection process.

We are excited to offer this new opportunity to support our students and to grow our school.
